Flash & EMDR faq
Whether we've experienced past traumas or not, it's very common to experience discomfort in the present that is linked to experiences of discomfort from the past. Both Flash and EMDR are evidence based therapies that use a combination of eye movements and/or tapping to resolve unprocessed traumatic or distressing memories that still impact us today.
In EMDR, we maintain a focus on the distressing experiences as we engage eye movements that help us reprocess and resolve the distress. In Flash, we instead spend most of the processing time focused on neutral or light content. Both are powerful techniques that invite the brain to detangle the pain of the past from the experience of the present. I offer both techniques, often interweaving the two, in my psychotherapy practice.
